We covered a lot of ground in our first episode of the Marketing Second Shift podcast!

Meet James Williams, owner of the Sixth Chamber Used Books located on Grand Ave. in St. Paul, Minnesota. You’ll hear how he keeps the wolf from the door, but you’ll also hear some really good stories, because the man is just interesting to listen to. Erudite without pretention, like a college professor in an inflatable pool.

As James freely admits: the book business is tough now-a-days. He’s had to be agile in order to adapt to the way the marketplace has change ever-so radically over the past 15 years.

The Sixth Chamber holds a special place in my heart for two reasons:

  • It was my go-to bookstore in the first years of my marriage.
  • James published my first comic noir fiction: Understanding Your Variable Annuity or The Scream of the Stripper. (Available on Amazon for $107.) He even designed the cover for me.

Enjoy this episode! In our next episode, we’ll be discussing hot trends in marketing automation with Redpath’s Eric Lehnen.
